This is the opening to a 17-minute short produced as an employee motivation piece for Nestle. This portion tells how the Nestle, Carnation, and Drumstick companies began, in the 1860s, 1900s, and 1920s. Each of the stories is true, and sets the stage for the live action footage shot in Nestle ice cream factories around the world. The goal of the production was to show how each corporate culture was unique, and each brought strengths that could be appreciated as the three companies found themselves working together under one roof. The Nestle historical portions in this segment were shot on location in Switzerland, with most of the actors taken from among Nestle employees who act in theatre on the side. The Carnation segment was shot in Amish country in northern Ohio and at the Ohio Historical Center Ohio Village general store in Columbus. The Drumstick segment was shot at Weldon’s ice cream in Millersport, Ohio. Written, directed, and edited by Owen Richard Kindig. Shot on 16mm film by Jeff Barklage and Owen Richard Kindig. Director of Photography for Drumstick and Nestle segments, Jeff Barklage. DP for Carnation segment, Owen RIchard Kindig. Casting by Cam Talent. Original score by Todd N. Hahn of Arlington, Virginia. Special thanks to Ralph Denisco, then the President of Nestle Dairy Systems and now the CEO of Columbus Salame Company, Hayward, California … who had the vision to make this production possible. It takes great clients to do great work.

12 Year old joins Country Banjo, Guitars, Harmonica Jam Session in Coble, Tn. with Bass Clarinet.

My 12 year old daughter and I had spent the weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. We drove to Centerville, Tennessee where I use to own a farm, I bought after moving up from the Virgin Islands in my twenties. We first ate at Breeces cafe (which is where I ate all the time when I lived in Centerville). The best country cooking anywhere in the world! Even though it had been 20 years since I lived in Centerville and only lived there 3 years, they remembered me! OOOPPSSSS :D We saw the farm house and then began making our way to the Amish area of Tennessee. We stopped by a country store out in the middle of nowhere in Coble, Tennessee to get some water. When we walked in there was a country jam session happening in the back. One of the guys asked if I played music and I said “No, not at all, but my daughter does.” She had her Bass Clarinet with her, practicing during our trip, because she has a school band concert this week. After a little convincing her it was okay to join in the jam session, she got her Bass Clarinet and played a couple of songs with the folks. Here is my daughter’s first jam session ever! It will be something to remember and I advise everyone… take some time, drive deep into the country and enjoy the nature and the people! Country folks are welcoming and friendly. They asked us to come back and for my daughter to come and play with them again. My daughter loved it there and she wants to go back often!

Entry from: Sanborn, United States Entry Title: “Home sweet home…or is it?!?” Entry: “Ready for our final long drive up to New York we headed to Amish Country which was about 30 minutes east of Mansfield, OH. We were excited to take this drive because the country is so beautiful and the skies were clear and blue! Driving several miles along country roads we took in the views of the rolling hills, beautiful landscaped homes and many, many corn fields! We passed through several small Amish communities on the lookout for a place to get some good home cooked Amish food. Stopping in Berlin, we parked and decided to walk along the street and visit a few antique shops, general stores and a local Amish restaurant. Walking in we found several women with bonnets on their heads dressed in traditional, plain dresses with no make up. As we sat our waitress was eager to take our order. As usual, we were on the look out for what the locals eat. Although everything looked just like what we would get back home, the preparing was slightly different. Our eggs were the best we had ever had, home raised I’m sure and their bread was clearly home baked. Also, trying to me daring we ordered the “fried mush” with homemade sausage gravy. Mush just does not sound appealing but was well liked. It’s like fried polenta but looks

Entry from: Joplin, United States Entry Title: “Fort Madison to Joplin” Entry: “We’re on the road at last! Our 2009 LA Pen Show Adventure started off this morning traveling through the rolling hills of southern Iowa. Quaint little towns – playful calves in fields – the leaning Pulaski school – Milton Cheese – The Villages of Van Buren – Bloomfield birthplace of WA Sheaffer. Pleasant early morning drive. Turning south toward Missouri, we are reminded that this is Amish country and encounter not just one or two horse drawn buggies, but a whole parking area at a farm filled with probably 20 or more horses and buggies. Outstanding to see. Rolling on southward into Missouri, a pit stop in Queen City at Casey’s for donuts – Casey’s is the Iowa equivalent of 7-11 or whatever gas/convenience store is in your area. Aside from the usual stuff all convenience stores have, they make fresh donuts, worth stopping for! More cute old towns along the route including Millard which just happens to be my Mom’s maiden name, no connection though. We usually have good luck finding some things at the antique malls and shops in Missouri, lots to choose from. And indeed we did find a few things today at our first stop south of Kirksville. We made several other pen hunting stops throughout the day, also found some of our
